Mylnefield Mylnes

The Mylne family name has the same origin as the common noun now spelled mill (as in water mill, flour mill etc.). This word was spelled in many different ways in both England and Scotland in earlier centuries, and the spelling mylne was very common in the 1600s. At that time, however, the Mylnefield Mylnes seem to have preferred to use an 'i' in the spelling of their surname.
