Thomas Mylne and the Stake Net Cause

According to Graham Ernest Mylne, grandson of Thomas fifth Mylne of Mylnefield, Thomas got into litigation with a neighbour about the rights of netting salmon in the Tay, lost the case after expensive legal proceedings lasting many years, and was obliged to sell Mylnefield in order to give the large young family a start in life.

 

In fact Thomas became embroiled in several court cases, and these cases involved not merely "a" neighbout, but the holders of fishing rights from one end of the Tay to the other.
